Brewing tea
What are the differences in brewing temperatures for different types of tea?
Green tea is suitable for brewing at around 80℃. Red tea, however, requires a higher temperature of 95℃ or above. For Oolong tea, a temperature of approximately 90℃ is recommended to better exhibit its complex aroma. Since Pu'er tea has undergone long-term fermentation, it can be brewed at a temperature close to boiling, around 95-100℃. These are general recommendations, and actual brewing temperatures can be adjusted according to personal taste and the specific characteristics of the tea.
How should the ratio of tea leaves to water be controlled?
The ratio of tea leaves to water affects the concentration and taste of the tea. Generally, for a lighter brew, use about 2-3 grams of tea leaves per 100ml of water. For a medium-strength brew, 3-5 grams of tea leaves per 100ml of water is suitable. For a stronger brew, use approximately 5-7 grams of tea leaves per 100ml of water. Of course, based on personal taste and the type of tea, the tea-to-water ratio can be adjusted accordingly.
Is it necessary to rinse the tea leaves before brewing?
Rinsing the tea leaves is not a necessary step, but some people like to briefly rinse them with hot water to remove any dust or impurities on the surface and to awaken the aroma of the tea. However, please note that the rinsing time should not be too long to avoid losing the essence of the tea.
Can tea leaves be reused for multiple infusions?
Yes, high-quality tea leaves can usually be reused for 5-8 infusions. However, the brewing time and temperature should be adjusted appropriately for each infusion to maintain the taste of the tea.
Does the material of the teapot affect the brewing effect?
Yes, the material of the teapot can have an impact on the brewing effect. For example, Zisha teapots and glass teapots have different heat retention properties, which can affect the aroma and taste of the tea.
What kind of water should be used for brewing tea?
It is best to use soft water or purified water for brewing tea to better exhibit its original flavor. Avoid using water that contains chlorine or unpleasant odors.
